So… is it “Tu” or “Usted”?

Well, it all depends! you would normally use “Tu” when you are referring to a person that you already know and you are comfortable with, for example, your spouse, children, friends, etc. You would normally use “Usted” when you are referring to an older person (for respect) and/or when you are meeting someone for the first time. Also, you could use “Usted” when you are talking to your boss.

In conclusion, you can use both, but in the Spanish/Latino culture is a matter of respect. And you should be aware of it, some people might even get offended if you refer to them as “Tu” when you haven’t gain their respect yet. So keep that in mind!
