Spanish 101

Posted on January 25, 2008. Filed under: General Spanish |

Ok, let’s go down to the basics! I want to talk about what you should learn first.

  • I = Yo
  • You = Tu
  • He = El
  • She = Ella
  • We = Nosotros
  • They = Ellos
  • It = Eso, Esa

Ok, this is the very basic you have to know. Now, we can start putting together some words in order to create a sentence:

I jump high = Yo salto alto

You jump high = Tu saltas alto

He/She jumps high = El/Ella saltan alto

We jump high = Nosotros saltamos alto

They jump high = Ellos saltan alto

it jumps high = lo/la salta alto

If you notice the example above, you have first the subject pronoun (I, You, He/She, We, They, It) then it goes the verb (jump) and lastly its the action word (high). Take a look at the verb in Spanish and notice how it changes depending on what subject pronoun you use. To be able to master the verb change, you will have to practice by listening to native speakers talk. It will take time, but I am sure that as soon as you have it down, it will be easy to follow along.
